Helpful Tips to ask before Purchasing a Pup
If the Breeder
will not allow you to come to the house, stay away!
If they want to meet you at a place aside from their home
STAY AWAY! Yes, Gas is expensive, but a happy, healthy
companion is PRICELESS!
Are you the
sole Breeder of Pup, if not do you know about the pup?
Can I
see more pictures of the Pup, from all angles?
Including belly to ensure
that the puppy does not have a visible hernia belly button!
Ask for an specific object to be in the picture taken with
the dog/pup that you know the dog/pup is real and not a
stolen photo.
Do
you have pictures of the Parents?
Can I see a
copy of the Pedigree?
(remember just because the dog
is registered through a fancy registration does not mean you
are receiving a a healthy, quality dog. If the parents both
have papers, they can be registered without restrictions,
and if the breeders do not do their homework, you will
receive an unfinished leftover rough draft assignment that
will not only cost you in the long run but will emotionally
drain you!)
Can I
come to your house to see the pups, parent dogs?
Or ask to be able to contact
the owner of the sire of the litter produced if they do not
own the sire.
Vet
Reference from the Breeder.
Make sure you do call the
vet.
Reference from at least 5 or more people that have purchased
a pup from the breeder.
Make sure these references are not their family members
or them using fake aliases, ask for phone numbers etc.
Does
the breeder health screen the parent dogs as well as the
pups in Eyes, Heart, elbows, knees, and Spine.
Does the
breeder guarantee cover any life threatening illnesses,
hereditary diseases that will impair the dog/pup to live a
natural healthy life?
Ask to view the contract before purchasing, read
thoroughly, ask many questions in regards to their contract,
even consult with a lawyer to go through the contract with
you.
Remember if you are
looking for a show potential puppy, beware of the breeders
that have newborns listed as show prospect etc, a reputable
show breeder will hold on to that puppy for awhile to ensure
that puppy is a show puppy and will guarantee it. You cannot
truly determine actual show until the puppy is at least 6
months old. You can get a good idea around 12-16 weeks, but
still the puppy may grow differently. Remember not all
good looking sires/dam can produce what they are! It is hard
to find a show dog/pup! Please do your research! Go visit
some shows, talk to people and observe for yourself.
